Without even realising it, I've made quite a few pieces of jewellery with sapphires and I've been wondering why I've gravitated towards them.
I thought I'd share some thoughts with you. If you have a loved one's birthday coming soon, then this newsletter may resonate with you.
Sapphires look amazing next to both silver and gold. The colours work so well together, which I think is great. Think about it - blue and white look great together, aka sapphire and silver. Yellow and blue (gold and sapphire) are opposites on the colour wheel so they also look phenomenal. The human brain finds the combination relaxing and it works so well in jewellery.
After diamonds, sapphires are the hardest stone. They are a 9 on the MOHS scale, so they are extremely durable and hard-wearing. This is especially important if you want to wear a piece all day, everyday. Durability makes sapphires one of the most popular choice for engagement rings, after diamonds. I chose my own engagement ring in sapphire and have recently remodelled it (10 years post divorce) into my new design above.
More personal reasons for sapphires now - my father bought a few sapphires in the Far East in the 1960s when he was in the merchant navy. He had some in a box for decades left over from my Mum's engagement ring, which his uncle made. The first stone I ever set was one of these sapphires and my daughter wears it in the silver and gold sapphire circle pendant (above), which was designed especially for her. It must be good as its my best seller!
I also thought it would be great to include one of these gemstones from my father's gifted stash in a ring for my brother. This was the inspiration behind my Wave collection and it was a perfect gift for his recent milestone birthday (I won't say how old!)
Thank you for showing an interest in my small business and I greatly appreciate your support.
Warmest wishes
